Tabcy does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All data processing happens locally on your device. We have zero access to your browsing data.

Overview

Tabcy is a Chrome extension that replaces your new tab page with an intelligent tab management interface. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

What Data We Access

Tabcy requires certain permissions to function, but all data stays on YOUR device:

Open Tabs - To display and organize tabs across windows
Browsing History - To show recent pages in the Recent tab
Bookmarks - To display saved pages and frequently visited sites
User Preferences - To remember your theme, name, and settings

Important: This data is read locally for display purposes only. Nothing is sent to external servers.

How We Use Permissions

tabs Permission

Allows viewing all open tabs across windows and enables the AI-powered tab classification feature. Tab information (titles, URLs) is processed locally for organization and never leaves your device.

history Permission

Displays recent browsing history in the "Recent" tab and calculates visit frequency for smart app recommendations. All history data processing happens entirely locally.

bookmarks Permission

Shows your bookmarks in the "Bookmarks" tab and identifies frequently visited bookmarked sites as "Apps". Bookmark data is never transmitted externally.

storage Permission

Saves your preferences (name, theme, search engine choice) using Chrome's built-in storage. May sync across your Chrome browsers if you have Chrome Sync enabled (controlled by your Chrome settings).

tabGroups Permission

Applies AI classification results by creating organized tab groups. Helps reduce tab clutter through automatic organization.

activeTab Permission

Allows switching to tabs when you click on them in the Tabs view. Enables one-click navigation.

What We DO NOT Do

We do NOT:

❌ Collect or store your browsing data
❌ Transmit data to external servers
❌ Share data with third parties
❌ Sell your data
❌ Track your browsing behavior
❌ Use analytics or telemetry
❌ Access passwords or form data
❌ Read tab content or page data

Third-Party Services

Google Favicon API

We use Google's public Favicon API (https://www.google.com/s2/favicons) to display website icons. This service receives domain names to fetch icons, but no personal browsing data is sent.

Unsplash API

We optionally fetch background images from Unsplash's public API. This feature can be disabled in settings. No personal data is sent to Unsplash.

Data Storage

All data processing and storage happens locally on your device:

User preferences stored in chrome.storage.sync
No external databases
No cloud storage
No server-side processing

If you have Chrome Sync enabled in your browser, your Tabcy preferences (theme, name, search engine) may sync across your devices using Chrome's built-in sync feature. This is controlled by your Chrome settings, not by Tabcy.

Remote Code

Tabcy does NOT use remote code execution. All extension code is bundled and shipped with the extension package. We do not load external scripts at runtime.

Children's Privacy

Tabcy does not collect any data from users of any age. The extension is suitable for all users, including children.

Your Rights

Since we don't collect or store your data, there's nothing for us to delete or export. All your data stays on your device and can be removed by:

Uninstalling the extension
Clearing Chrome's extension data
Resetting Chrome settings
